Listen, it’s already in the 80s here in Charleston. And I’m not going into an office for meetings anymore, so my style has changed to reflect my real life, styling people and baking in my kitchen. I used to ALWAYS grab that blazer first, and now I’m finding other summer/casual appropriate pieces to blend in with my closet. I’m focused when I add pieces- only things that play with everything else I have and can wear frequently, and only pieces I can style in different ways. This vest cardi is the most perfectly punk bit of cool to add to my closet!

A million years ago, I met these two amazing women as fellow hockey moms. At the time, we were all “single” - whether parenting alone, living alone, or feeling alone - and we just clicked. We would spend the next 10+ years of our lives traveling together, starting businesses together, offering advice on outfits, working out together, and our kids became friends. While the years may have changed directions for our kids, our significant others, our jobs, and our locations, we ALWAYS make time to catch up at some point. The best thing about the best friendships is that they are easy to renew when the stars align and we can all be in the same place at the same time. The last of our collective kids graduates this year and it really feels like the end of an era.
So many years ago, one of the other hockey moms called us The Plastics, and since then we embraced it and always call ourselves that. 😂🩷👯‍♀️

“I was relieved to eliminate all that I had been holding onto and also getting your opinion on what I need to look for when I shop. You made it easy…it was a pleasure meeting you.”

It was MY pleasure to set up in the staging closet of the most inspiring woman this week. Sure, she is turning 78 next month and is the most “mature” client I’ve had yet. Yes, she has the most vibrant and elegant (and repeating!) designer wardrobe I’ve ever worked with. But her desire to clear out the clutter, refine her style, and embrace her current shape was just what I needed to remind me why I do what I do.
Her outlook changed completely. In just 3 hours, she went from overwhelmed to encouraged! She thought she needed to shop first, but I convinced her to start with a closet edit. We found that with just a few styling or tailoring tweaks to several of her clothes, she already had tons of great outfit options. I identified the few gaps that she actually has in her closet, and we will shop for those next month. Not an entire $$$ wardrobe like she was prepared for, just a few select pieces to tie it all together!

No matter your size, shape, age, or income, you deserve to feel amazing when you get dressed every day. It’s not just possible, it’s guaranteed when we work together.

I’ve been called a lot of things in my life, but basic isn’t one of them!
As much as I love to get (over) dressed to leave the house, I am such a homebody. If I don’t have a reason to get out of my pjs, I hate to get out of my pjs. But the truth is I’m getting dressed at least twice, (almost) every day. First, to work out, and then my actual outfit after that. I’m guessing many of you do the same thing.
BUT DID YOU KNOW the best part about high/low dressing is the ability to mix those wardrobes. You can wear your leggings with your designer jacket, or your workout sneakers with your power pantsuit. And when you mix in your “good” pieces with your basics, your entire look becomes elevated and creates a statement.
Don’t shop until you’ve let me shop your closet! I save my average client more than 5x what they would spend to shop when they have me rework what’s already hanging in their closet!

When you’re just a girl trying to be a stylist but you have to also be an influencer 🤣🫣🫠

I hear tags are so 2024 so forget ‘em. Also now I have to say Style by Sonja as my business name and I forgot that in my voiceover.

Hope you’re having as much fun today as I am! Laugh at yourself, my friends! Or, as a real B used to dismissively say to me when I would expect more from her at the office …”it ain’t that deep”. Man, am I lucky I don’t have to work with her anymore, and instead I can work on a video on IG for hours only for it to tell me it saved but it didn’t.

There’s something about winter style that seems intimidating because we have to have so many layers and that can make us look frumpy. So let’s try shopping our closet for a monochromatic look- which somehow always comes across as luxurious and glam, neither of which is how I actually feel in this frigid weather, but I digress! Then make it winter white, and you’re ready for the runway. Or the office. Or the car rider line. Or errands at Costco.

We have to draw the line somewhere, right? We can’t just be so layered up that we get mistaken for the Christmas Story kid (even if I want ALL the layers and I do recall a belt over that sexy snowsuit…and I’m definitely showing those Christmas goodies over my waistline).
So what’s a girl to do when she just wants cozy, but also plans to leave the house, so the snuggy has to come off (along with the fuzzy blanket)?
Lean in. And belt it! And then add another layer so it all looks put together and on purpose!

This week is for baking sourdough loaves, planning the upcoming year, and dining room table puzzles with red wine and cozy slippers and the fireplace on full blast.

But…which shoe? I love a delicate heel with a thick sweater and pant combo, but the color hues of the greens with blues made me partial to the chunky heel. Either way, I’m not going outside. 😆 Fuzzy slippers are back on!
